Victoria Garden

A community garden representing peace and togetherness.

A resource garden that promotes community and helping neighbors.

The Victoria Garden is a community garden in frog town which serves the residents with fresh vegetables, fruit, and flowers. The garden functions mainly on a renting basis. Anyone can buy or rent a plot, or raised flower bed, for about 25$ a season, and they can grow anything they would like. Many of the residents that use the garden grow bean, tomatoes, various types of flowers, and other vegetables. There are also various companies that rent out plots for their workers to come garden in. Some of the garden is also used to collect food and take it to food shelters. The food serves the community as a resource in an area that is know as a "food desert".
The Garden is built on the property when previously housed a building. The building was vacated and torn down, and there were many arguments and debates on different companies that wanted to build own the land. The neighborhood rallied against the building on the land, and it was eventually turned into a peace garden. The garden has all lifted garden beds, as the soil is not fertile enough to garden directly in. Much of the water and gardening supplies that people use in the garden are given by the neighbor who lives next door. As a very popular, and long employed police chief for the city of Saint Paul, Mr. Blakey feels personally involved in the community, and looks at donating his resources as a way to give back.
